Billy Edmond Jennings

Mr. Billy Edmond Jennings, 96, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023.  Billy was born on May 30, 1927, in McDowell County, West Virginia, to the late Bert Edna Jennings and Alma Leslie Carnal Jennings.  Billy spent majority of his life in Welch, West Virginia and lived in Winston-Salem with his son and daughter-in-law for the past 15 years.  Billy served his country in the United States Army Air Corp for four years in Iceland doing radio repair.  He attended West Virginia University for mechanical engineering before taking a job with the Welch Post Office, retiring after 35 years of service.  Billy loved math, seemingly weaving equations, numbers, and theorems effortlessly.  He was a man of faith and attended First Baptist Church in Welch, where he enjoyed bible study.  Billy and his wife adopted two boys, Lewis at 9 months old and David at 2 ½ years old.  In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Hallie Mills Jennings; son, David Wayne Jennings; and two sisters, Joyce and Ethylene.  Billy is survived by his son, William “Lewis” Jennings and wife, Debbie and numerous nieces and nephews.  A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Into your hands, O’ Lord, we humbly entrust our father, Billy E. Jennings.  In his life you embraced him with your tender love.  Deliver him now from evil and suffering and bid him eternal rest.  Welcome him to paradise, where there is no sorrow, no regret, no weeping, nor pain.  But only the fullness of peace and joy.
