Billy Gray Turner

Billy Gray Turner, 84, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at his home in Tobaccoville, NC. He was born on November 14, 1940, in Yadkin County, NC, to the late William Carl Turner and Stella Talley Turner. Billy Turner was much loved and much admired by his family and community alike. He spent many years involved in ministries from youth to Gideons to Disaster Relief and to music. On his last earthly day, he sang in the choir at church and attended Men’s Chorus practice. He also spent 20+ years in the volunteer fire/rescue department. He served as a life mentor and spiritual mentor to many. He was an entrepreneur that ran several businesses. He then became a postal carrier from which he retired in 2003. He loved his family deeply and supported his wife, daughters, and grandchildren in their endeavors. He was a wonderful husband, father, and pawpaw and will be greatly missed. Billy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Turner; two daughters, Barbie McKinney (Olen) and Brenda Williams (Gregg); two grandchildren, Aaron McKinney and Samantha Williams Monroe (Ziggmond); two sisters, Betty Sue Norman (Wendell) and Mary Chambers (Tony); one brother, Lyndon Turner (Bettie); and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Old Town Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Speas and Pastor Terry Smith officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior at the church. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
