Billy Wayne Kiser

Billy Wayne Kiser, age 77, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2023, at Village Care Nursing Center in King NC, after a long battle with numerous health issues. He was born on January 27, 1946, in Norfolk County, VA, to the late Thurman Samuel Kiser and Evelyn Baker Kiser.

 

Bill was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and enlisted in 1965.  His duties included seaman and signalman.  During his years in the service, he was stationed on the USS Comstock (LSD-19), USS Clarion River (LSMR-409) and the USS Westchester County (LST-1167).  In 1968, two mines were used to blow up the USS Westchester where Bill received extensive injury.  In 1970 Bill received an honorable discharge with numerous honors including the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Metal, Vietnam Service Metal and Vietnam Campaign Metal.  

 

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Samuel Kiser; His wife, Sharon McRae Kiser; nephew,  Jeff Watkins; sister Sylvia Kiser Barnes.

 

Left to cherish his memory are numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and brothers-in-law.

 

The most important thing to Bill was his family, friends, and his pets.  He loved to spend time with his family and joke around as well as spend time on the phone talking to his shipmates.

 

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 11, 2023, in Salisbury National Cemetery with Pastor Francis Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made in Billy’s name to The Wounded Warrior Project 1990 Fordham Suite 100, Fayetteville, NC 28304. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
