Billy Douglas Puryear Sr.

Billy Douglas Puryear Sr., 72, passed away May 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 25, 1953, in Forsyth County, Billy lived a life centered around hard work, family, laughter, and the simple joys that meant the most.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Wanda Puryear. He leaves behind his loving wife, Deborah Puryear; his son, Billy Puryear Jr (Tracey Larson); his brother, Chris Puryear; grandchildren, Whitney Puryear (Jessica Puryear), Bridget Puryear (Nate McKinney), and Jacob Woods; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Wrenleigh Puryear, Wynn McKinney, and Weston Puryear.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army for two years while stationed in Germany. After his military service, he dedicated 32 years of hard work to the City of Winston-Salem before retiring in 2007.

Billy enjoyed the simple things in life that brought people together. He loved fishing, spending time at the beach, grilling on the back porch, and making memories with his family. Whether he was casting a line, cooking for those he loved, or relaxing at home with his faithful dog Bubba, Billy found joy in the moments spent with family and friends.

He will be remembered as a hardworking, genuine, and loving man whose presence brought comfort and laughter to those around him. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A funeral service will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC, by Pastor T.W. Bailey. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. A burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Parklawn Memorial Gardens, 2730 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27127. The family will receive friends and family at the home following the burial service on Friday.
