Bobby Joe Atwood

Bobby Joe Atwood, 84, passed away on February 16, 2026, in Winston-Salem, NC.

Bobby was born on June 29, 1941, in Wilkes County, NC, to the late Edgar Jay Blackburn and Zenna Rae Atwood. He worked for Indera Mills for 52 years.

Bobby loved spending time in the mountains. He was a history buff and also enjoyed shooting pool with friends.

Bobby was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Keith Atwood; stepdaughter, Kimberly Denise Shutt; and siblings, Balmer Atwood, Billy Atwood, Betty Atwood Edminston, Brenda Atwood Motsinger, and Elaine Atwood Price.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Lawrence Atwood; grandson, D.J. George; special niece, Debbie Atwood Poarch and her husband, Jeff Poarch; and special nephew, Christopher Atwood and his wife, Lisa Atwood.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Griffith Baptist Church, 1987 Old Salisbury Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.
