Mr. Bobby Gray ""Bob"" Bodenhamer, 80, of Lewisville, passed on to his Heavenly home at sunset Tuesday, October 27, 2015 surrounded by his wife of 47 years and loving family by his side. He was born May 14, 1935 in Forsyth County to Walter Bynum Bodenhamer, Sr. and Hattie Cornish Bodenhamer. Bob is a graduate of South Fork High School, served 14 years in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a past charter member of the Sertoma West Club. He started working for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. at the age of 20 as a mail boy and retired after 34 years of service with fond memories. Over the years he worked the tobacco market, was a key contributor to many patents for machinery and processes used by RJR and later advanced to the Engineering Training Center as an Instructor for the Mechanical School during his last 12 years of employment. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Walter Bynum ""Bud"" Bodenhamer, Jr., and one grandson, Zach Edward Cruise. Surviving are his wife, Audrey Pitts Bodenhamer, of the home; three daughters, Maria Sears and husband David of Cary, NC, Kim Todd and husband Steve of Naples, FL, and Debbie Sewell and husband Jim of Morehead City, NC; one son, Bobby Gray Bodenhamer, Jr. and wife Robin of Mt. Airy, NC; three sisters, Frances B. Highfill of Winston-Salem, NC, Mozelle B. Flynt of Aiken, SC, and Deanna B. Williams and husband Tom of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, Donald Jackson ""Jack"" Bodenhamer and wife Linda of Lewisville, NC; former wife Patty Johnson Stafford of Mt. Airy, NC; 9 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren and 4 step great, great-grandchildren. Bob was a lifelong member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church where during his youth he played trombone in the Moravian Church Band. He enjoyed making Christmas Eve Lovefeast coffee for many years and chicken pies with the Women's Fellowship. Bob enjoyed gardening for therapy and sharing the bounty. His other favorite pastimes included nature, fishing, quail hunting and cooking for the Bull Mountain Hunt Club. Traveling the world and spending time with family was his top priority during retirement. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, November 1, 2015, at New Philadelphia Moravian Church, Winston-Salem, NC with Rev. Dr. Worth Green officiating. Burial will follow in God's Acre. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall following the burial. Viewing will be 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation of blood to your local Blood Bank or a contribution may be made in memory of Bob to New Philadelphia Moravian Church, 4440 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27104. The Bodenhamer family expresses their sincere appreciation to his Internal Medicine doctor, Gerald A. Fromson, M.D. and Oncologist, Franklin L. Chen, M.D., both who cared for Bob with exemplary medical service and to Dr. Chen's nurse, Michelle. We give special thanks to the nursing staff at the Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center Outpatient Day Center and to the 2nd floor ICU staff for the special care given to Bob and family in recent days.
