Mr. Bobby Ray Key, 88, of Lewisville, NC, died Sunday, December 7, 2025. Bobby was born February 17, 1937, in Randolph County, the son of Rev. Paul W. and Gertrude Snow Key. Mr. Key served his country by enlisting in the Army and serving three years in Germany. In November 1961, he married Gale White, and together they celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in 2025.
Bobby was a member of Lewisville Baptist Church for over 50 years. He served the church in many capacities, including deacon, trustee, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He was an avid athlete throughout his life—from playing first-string basketball at Pilot Mountain High School to enjoying golf for many years. He was an excellent golfer and especially loved playing with his brothers Glenn and P.J., his brothers-in-law Robert Kimball and David Griffin, and his nephew Adam Key. He also competed in the Senior Olympics for many years, winning over 150 gold medals, as well as national championships in horseshoe and in softball.
Not only was he a physical athlete, but he was also a spiritual athlete for the Lord Jesus Christ. He never backed off or tired of promoting the Lord—through his words and through the way he lived.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul J. Key; and his mother-in-law, Lillian White. He is survived by his wife, Gale White Key; his brother, Glenn Morris Key, and wife, Sarah Mitchell Key, of Pilot Mountain; two sisters, Gail Key Kimball of Salisbury and Pattie Griffin Wall of Pilot Mountain; two sisters-in-law, Carole Ann Key of Madison, Indiana, and Debra White Grant of Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is Bobby and Gale’s canine companion, Anna Grace.
Visitation will be held Saturday, December 13, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Lewisville Baptist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
