Bobby Vestal, Sr.

Mr. Bobby Gorrell Vestal, Sr., 88, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 21, 2017. He was born on May 21, 1929 to Norma Opal Wishon Vestal and Abner Gorrell Vestal in Yadkinville. Bobby was of the Methodist faith. He worked as a Superintendent in the construction industry. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. As a veteran of the Korean War, Bobby was honored as a hero, earning the Bronze Star for Bravery in Battle. He belonged to Am Vet and VFW. Bobby was a family man who especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be remembered as a faithful friend, counselor and mentor. He was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Gorrell Vestal, Jr. as well as a grandson, Bobby Gorrell Vestal, III. Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Betty K. Vestal; children, Donna Ray (Randy), Tammy Phillips (Frank), and Norma Phillips (Rodney); as well as 15 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Hancock, Nellie Fowler, and a large extended family. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev.Billy Norris. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice, 225 Davie Ave., Statesville, NC 28677.
