Bonnie Lou Mikles Quate, 89, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2024. She was born on July 10, 1934 to Clara Bolt Mikles and Rev. Charlie Bruton Mikles in East Bend NC. She spent her entire life living in Yadkin and Forsyth Counties. Bonnie Quate was a loving and devoted Mother, Wife, Sister and Friend who touched the lives of those around her with warmth, compassion, and kindness. She embraced life with a spirit of generosity and made a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was proceeded in death by her parents, a brother, Leon Mikles and her beloved daughter April Lynne Quate Densmore. She is survived by; her husband A.C. Quate, beloved pet Peanut, two sisters, Sharon Roberson and Terri Vestal, son in-law Kevin Densmore and two grandchildren Will Densmore and Taylor Densmore. Also, one great granddaughter Ava Densmore. She was a graduate of East Bend High School, where she was active in clubs and sports. She worked at PH Hanes Knitting for 10 years where she made many long-lasting friends. Bonnie was also “Miss Hanes Knitter 1953” and was “Miss Winston Salem 1954” and participated in the “Miss North Carolina Beauty Pageant”. Bonnie married A.C. Quate in 1955, celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary this past year. She was active in New Philadelphia Moravian Church; teaching Sunday School and serving as a Diener. She was exceptionally gifted in arts and crafts and taught wood carving at the Cricket’s Nest Craft Shop. Bonnie was also an amazing gardener, growing both vegetables and flowers for years. A graveside service will be held at New Philadelphia Moravian Church at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024 with the Rt. Rev. Sam Gray and Rev. Dr. Worth Green officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to New Philadelphia Moravian Church, 4440 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104 or to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
