Brenda Hensley Anderson

Brenda Hensley Anderson, 83, passed away at home on April 6, 2024. She was born on January 28, 1941, to Fred Hensley and Grace McHargue Hensley in Clemmons. 

Brenda was a lifelong member of Harmony Grove United Methodist Church. There, she enjoyed teaching Sunday School, making chicken pies, and helping with the new church building. Outdoors activities were among her favorite pastimes. With a green thumb she could heal just about any sick plant. She loved all her flowers, both indoors and out. Brenda and her late husband, Grady enjoyed boating and fishing together. She learned to swim while she was in her 60’s, demonstrating courage and making her children very proud. Brenda will be remembered as a wonderful cook; strict, yet funny, and good-hearted. More than anything, she loved her grandchildren. 

In addition to her husband, Grady C. Anderson, Brenda was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hope L. Wishon; brothers, Marvin Hensley (Mary Elizabeth), and Arvel Hensley (Olene); sisters, Ella Frye (Raymond), and Dorothy Carter. Surviving are her children, Sonya Kellar (Tom), Phillip Barton (Deborah), Donna Wishon (Darwin); grandchildren, Amanda Tomkiewicz, Laura Heath, Jessica Partin (Derek), Michael Heath, Calvin Wishon, Faith Collins (Hollister), and Kevin Wishon; great grandchildren, Noah Tomkiewicz, Gabe Tomkiewicz, Brooklyn Partin, and Caleb Partin; brother-in-law, Gene Carter; and many nieces and nephews. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ryan Mendenhall officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 PM, at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony Grove UMC.
