Brenda Jean Edwards

Brenda Jean Edwards, 75, of Rural Hall, died Sunday, May 10, 2026 at her home following a period of declining health. She was the daughter of Raymond Vestal Edwards and Minnie Lee Denny Edwards Winfree and the sister of Melvin Vestal Edwards, all now deceased. Brenda was a graduate of South Stokes High School and retired from the US Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Marketing Service. During her 38-year career with the USDA, she was among the first females to hold a supervisory position in the Cotton and Tobacco Program. She had a matter-of-fact personality and a will and determination that served her well throughout her life. She was a devoted animal lover and provided a loving home to many beloved pets over the years. She is survived by a niece, Amanda Kirkman (husband Gregg), a nephew Christopher Edwards, a special cousin, Gary Merritt and his wife, Lana, and a host of other relatives and friends. Per Brenda’s request, there will be no formal services held.
