Brenda Morris Shanks

Mrs. Brenda Morris Shanks, 69, of Lewisville, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a short courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 15, 1947 in Fayetteville, NC. She graduated from NC Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and retired from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after 28 years as a night supervisor. While a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church for over 40 years, Brenda was a member of the Fellowship Class and served on various committees. She served on the Nissen House Steering Committee of the Lewisville Historical Society. Brenda loved gardening, reading, traveling, and vacations with her family to the beach and the Caribbean. She was preceded in death by her father, James Aaron Morris, Sr.; her son, Bryan David Shanks; a brother, James A. Morris, Jr. and a sister, Shelby Gerber. Surviving are her husband of 47 years, David Larry Shanks, he asked her to dance at a party and she said ""with who?""; her mother, Lenore W. Morris; her children, Christy Hodakowski and husband Jeff of Hickory and Mark Shanks and wife Tracey of Hickory; three grandchildren, Justin and Rachel Hodakowski and Carter Shanks; two sisters, Kathryn Scruggins and Denise Lee and husband Cliff; two brothers, Gerald Morris and wife Amanda, William Morris and wife Mary; sister-in-law, Ann Gammon andspecial friend Larry; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Lewisville United Methodist Church with Dr. Ivan Peden, Rev. Susan Ewing, and Rev. Tom Lee officiating.
