Brian "Scott" Dowell

Brian “Scott” Dowell, 48, a resident of Winston-Salem, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Scott was born in Forsyth County on March 17, 1978, to the late Mark Edward Johnson and Irma Prevette Poindexter. He was self-employed, buying and selling homes throughout the area. Scott was an avid basketball fan who loved playing the game whenever he had the opportunity. He also enjoyed hiking, playing video games, and spending time outdoors. Known for his intelligence and unmatched wit, Scott had a way of making those around him laugh and think. Above all else, he treasured his family and cherished every moment he could spend with them. His love, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Dowell Green; his brother, Billy Dowell, Jr.; and his beloved nephew and best friend, Troy Dowell.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Brian Xavier Dowell, Adam Dowell (Cassandra), and Kelly Dowell Shue (Zack); his granddaughter, Lilly Shue, and one grandchild on the way; his sisters, Glenda Dowell Brown and Melissa Dowell; best friend, Eddie Jarvis; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Pastor David Shaw officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
