Mr. Brooks Jackson Groves, 96, went home to be with the lord Friday June 28, 2019. He was born June 11, 1923 in Kester, West Virginia to the late William Hansford Groves and Mary Curtis Groves. Mr. Groves was a true hero serving his country during World War II in both the European and Pacific theaters. In addition to his military service Brooks worked for Hennis Freight for 14 years, and Billings Garage to finish out his career. In 1990, he was flown to Washington DC to view the WWII memorial as part of the Flight of Honor program. In addition to his parents Mr. Groves was preceded in death by an infant sister and one brother, John Groves. Brooks is survived by his loving wife of 71 and a half years; Leanell Cook Groves; one son, Charles Michael Groves Sr.; seven grandchildren, Christina Cain (Robert), Kevin Groves, Christa Hale (Cameron), Katie Beal, Cortni Groves, Chelsea Brown (Logan), Michael Groves Jr., and seven great grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday July 5, 2019 at The First Baptist Church of Stanleyville with Pastor Eddie Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
