Bryan David Shanks

Dolores, CO Bryan David Shanks, 40, passed away unexpectedly on December 18, 2015. He was born January 14, 1975 on Kwajalein, Marshall Islands. Bryan was a member of Lewisville United Methodist Church, an Eagle Scout of Troop 752 in Lewisville, and graduated with honors from West Forsyth High School. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1997 with a BA degree in Anthropology and was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. After visiting the Philmont Scout Ranch with his scout troop, Bryan fell in love with the Southwest and moved to Albuquerque, NM when he graduated from college. He then moved to Colorado to work for the Mesa Verde National Park. He moved to Dolores, Colorado and was an archaeologist for Woods Canyon Archaeological Consultants. Bryan enjoyed hiking, cross country skiing, running, traveling, reading, and glass blowing. Surviving is his special friend, Lisa Henry of Dolores; parents, David and Brenda Shanks of Lewisville; sister, Christy Hodakowski and husband, Jeff of Hickory; brother, Mark Shanks and wife, Tracey of Hickory; nephew, Justin Hodakowski; niece, Rachel Hodakowski; nephew, Carter Shanks; also surviving is his grandmother, Lenore Morris of Fayetteville and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. A private graveside service will be held at Lewisville United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lewisville United Methodist Church, PO Box 305 Lewisville, NC 27023 or to Boy Scout Troop 752, 8304 Tralee Rd., Clemmons, NC 27012.
