Buena 'Bea' Boyles Powers

Mrs. Buena ""Bea"" Boyles Powers, 87, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013. Bea was born November 18, 1925 in Surry County to the late Hubert A. and Minnie Leigh Shinault Boyles. She was a member of Waughtown Baptist Church and married Jesse Lee ""Mule"" Powers, Jr., July 2, 1955. She was past Worthy Matron of Twin City Lodge # 60 and had been active in the Boy Scouts and Head Start. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Gallimore, Polly Fulk, Jessie Bledsoe and two brothers; JC and Jerry Boyles. Surviving to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 58 years. Jesse L. Powers, Jr. of the home, two daughters; Penny Powers Martin and husband, Torrence of Winston Salem, Susan Kelly of King, NC, 5 grandchildren; Tony Lee and Kyle Vazquez, Torrence and Joseph Martin, Emily Kelly Covington, 4 great-grandchildren; Zevon Myers, Jesse Lee Covington, Piper and Kynlie Vazquez, a brother; Wesley Boyles of Surry County, three sisters; Maxie Southern of Surry County, Martha Lane, and husband, Jackie of Advance, Claudia Anthony and husband, Jimmy of Surry, County. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00pm Monday, October 7, 2013 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A Graveside Service will follow in the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens at 2:30 pm with Pastor Charlie Martin officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Jesse ""Mule"" Powers at Members Credit Union, to continue the Southside Bicycle Ministry. The Powers family would like to thank all the beloved neighbors on Leight St. especially the family of Yvonne Terry, Tanja Sharpe, the Cranfords, also to a special sister; Martha Lane, to Hospice/Palliative Care of W-S/Forsyth County, and to the daughters place of employment, Region III Tasc and Surry Central High School for all their support.
