Burnes Garnett Yates

Mr. Burnes Garnett Yates, Jr, 83, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on December 6, 1939, in Forsyth County, NC, to the late Burnes Garnett Yates, Sr., and Thelma Hurt Yates.

Burnes enjoyed playing golf with his friends at Willshire Golf Course, tinkering with old cars, and watching sports games on TV. He also loved to take drives up and down the North Carolina coast.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shelva Walker Yates.

He is survived by his two sons, Mitchell “Mitch” Yates, and Michael “Mike” (Chrystal) Yates; brother, Robert “Bob” (Cathy) Yates; grandchildren, Zane (Taylor) Yates and Walker Yates; and great-granddaughters, Olive Yates and Navie Yates.

A private family service will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. John Bishop officiating.
