Calvin "Cal" Neumann

Mr. Calvin “Cal” Lee Neumann, 80, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2019.  Cal was born on September 13, 1938, to the late George and Helen Harder Neumann in Coldwater, Michigan, the second of four sons.  He graduated from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, Michigan and earned a Ph.D. in physical organic chemistry under Professor N.L. Allinger from Wayne State University in Detroit.  He came to Winston-Salem in 1966 to work for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in their Research and Development Department.  Cal loved nature and enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing and hunting.  He played pool with a group of friends for over fifty years.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Neumann.  Cal was a loving husband, father and grandfather and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Leslie; one daughter, Christy Lennon and husband, Peter; one grandson, Alex; two brothers, Wayne Neumann and Donald Neumann and wife, Claire; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Lucas.  A memorial Service will be held 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 18, 2018 at Parkway United Church of Christ, 1465 Irving Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials made to the Alpha-1 Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Coral Gables, FL 33134 or Parkway United Church of Christ, 1465 Irving St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.  Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family of Mr. Neumann.
