Carl "Russell" Flippen

Carl “Russell” Flippen, 79, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. He was born in Surry County, NC, to the late Samuel M. Flippen and Virginia Elizabeth Southern Flippen. Russell was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He retired from Greyhound lines as a driver, a job in which he took much pride in. He was a people person, and everywhere he went he made a new friend. He spent his free time playing golf and woodworking. Russell was also a proud Army veteran. He had an immense love for his family. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him. 

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Samuel “Sammy” Flippen. 

Russell is survived by his loving wife, Rita Flippen; his children, Tammy Upchurch, Chris Flippen, and Debbie Flippen; six grandchildren, Scotty Flippen, Seth Gambill, Hannah Upchurch, Haylee Upchurch, Caylee Cantrell, and Emma Flippen; two brothers, Woody Flippen and Jerry Flippen; one sister, Barbara Johnson; as well as many extended family members. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 19, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Frank Shumate officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
