Carl DeWitt Sawyer Jr

Carl DeWitt Sawyer, Jr., 73, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House. He was born on December 3, 1943 in New Hanover County to Carl DeWitt Sawyer, Sr. and Mary Bessie Sawyer. Carl graduated from UNC with a B.S. in Accounting and worked for Flex-Pay for over 20 years retiring as C.O.O. Carl was an avid Tar Heel's fan and enjoyed trips to the beach. He was a hardworking, compassionate and generous man who was always a perfect gentleman, and was a father figure to many. He was very loyal to his family and friends and was always there to help others in need. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters. Survivors include, his wife Elizabeth Sawyer; daughter, Elizabeth Sawyer Pack and fiancé Joshua Cole; step-son, Robert Burkhard and fiancée Trenda Armstrong; and step-granddaughter, Nicole. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 2:00pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Pastor Donna Kraus officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
