Carol Jean Lambeth Smith

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Carol Jean Lambeth Smith, 81, on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Carol was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew her with her kindness, giving heart, and unwavering spirit.

Carol will be lovingly remembered by her children, Peggy Smith James, and Gregory H. Smith; her cherished grandchildren, Derrick (Mandy) James, Ian Smith, and Shane Aaron; and her great-grandchild, Carter James. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Becky Smith; along with her nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 61 years, Gary H. Smith; her parents, Fred and Doris Lambeth; and her sister, Bobbie A. Atkins.

Born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Carol was a proud graduate of Glenn High School. After marrying Gary, she became a faithful member of Glenn View Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities, most joyfully working with the children. She also built a successful business, CLS Tax Services, where she shared her knowledge, guidance, and care with her community.

Carol’s talents and joys extended into her hobbies. She loved numbers, sewing, crafting, painting, and sudoku, and her creative spirit brought joy to those around her.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel, 3950 Macy Grove Rd, Kernersville, NC 27284. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Glenn View Baptist Church, 4275 Glenn Hi Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. Officiating the service is Rev. Dominic Immordino. The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Glenn View Baptist Church or Mountain Valley Hospice, 945 Zephyr Rd, Dobson, NC 27107.

Carol’s family and friends will forever carry her memory in their hearts, as they remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend – an extraordinary woman whose life was filled with love, laughter, courage, and faith.
