Carolyn Bassett Wilson

Carolyn Wilson, 76, of Kernersville passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at her home in Kernersville. She was born to the late John and Virginia Bassett on February 16, 1949, in Forsyth County, NC.

Carolyn lived in Belews Creek for most of her life after her husband, the late Marshall Manuel Wilson Junior, convinced her to move to some land he had purchased. Perhaps hesitant at first, she obliged and made that property her home for many years. For those who had the privilege to visit, you know that land, the greenhouses, and all the flowers they grew, are the outpouring of Carolyn’s love.

Carolyn held several jobs — an Admin at Gant Oil company, co-founder of Wilson Nursery and Landscaping where she mastered growing poinsettias, and teaching ESL at her alma mater, East Forsyth High School. She touched the lives of many.

Carolyn was a dedicated member of her church, Triad Baptist. She kept a Bible in every room and at least one in her car. When the family was together, making arrangements for the funeral, we were discussing what her favorite verse was for a pamphlet. We couldn’t decide because “she really just liked them all.” And that’s true, Carolyn loved her Savior with her entire being.

She loved having her family over for dinner on holidays. But she could never say the prayer before we ate because she’d always cry halfway through! We weren’t sure if it was because she was overwhelmed by the privilege of talking to Jesus or the love she had for everyone in the room. It was probably both. Consider this your excuse to smoke a pork belly, drink some sweet tea (if you think it’s too sweet, add a little more sugar), and be overwhelmed by your blessings.

We will miss her dearly but we are overjoyed to know that she is reunited with her husband, Marshall, her mother and father, John and Virginia, and her daughter in law, Amy.

Carolyn is survived by her sister, Julia Brown; son, Jonathan Wilson; son, Michael Wilson (Shannon); grandchildren, Matthew Wilson (Elizabeth), Allison Owen (Jacob), Carrie Paige Wilson, and Aaron Wilson; great-grandchildren, Levi Wilson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Officiating the service is Pastor Rob Decker. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.
