WINSTON SALEM – Carolyn Diane Joyce Cheek,78, passed away Monday, January 14, 2019, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Carolyn was born on March 1,1940 to Fred and Dorothy Brown Joyce. She was a member at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, where she shared her love of music by singing in the choir. Carolyn loved animals and enjoyed raising sheep. She enjoyed playing games – especially Bingo – and was always a “winner.” Carolyn was one-of-a-kind, who enjoyed sharing her happy spirit with everyone. She truly loved people for who they were. Carolyn was a loving mother and grandmother, being their biggest supporter and cheerleader. She provided childcare for her grandchildren that only a grandmother could give.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by one brother, Fred “Freddie” Joyce Jr. Surviving are two sons, Marty Whicker (Christy) and Michael Whicker (Brenda); two daughters, Marilyn Whicker and Michelle Whicker Hamm (Todd); seven grandchildren, Jennifer Gilliam (Brock), Emily Vaughn (Chip), Nolan Whicker, Grayson Whicker, Alisha Ramsey (Josh), Stephen Whicker (Crystal), and Nicole Hamm; four great grandchildren; and one sister, Katherine Hodges.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Chaplain Rennie Adcock officiating. Burial will follow at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Mallard Ridge Assisted Living for their loving care of Carolyn whom became part of their family, and also to the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
