Carolyn Shields Eldridge

Mrs. Carolyn Shields Eldridge, 82, passed away on July 7, 2016, at the Childers Place Nursing Facility in Amarillo, TX. She was born July 15, 1933, in Plant City, Florida to Thomas Edwin Shields and Blanche Langford Shields, and was married to William B. Eldridge for 54 years until his death in 2011. Mrs. Eldridge was an active member of the South Fork Church of Christ in Winston-Salem, NC until she moved to Amarillo Texas in 2013 to be near family. Mrs. Eldridge was a long-time teacher and counselor, working primarily at Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem. She attended both Florida Christian College and the University of Florida, and went on to receive her master's degree in counseling from Wake Forest University in 1973. Mrs. Eldridge was active in conducting Bible studies and signing for the deaf at her church home. She spent countless hours volunteering for CONTACT, a telephone counseling ministry in Winston-Salem, and she began Parents' Anonymous, a support group for parents in crisis. Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, John Thomas and Sharyn Shields, of Tallahassee, FL; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Julie Eldridge, of Amarillo, TX; a daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Noel Coplen, of Wingo, KY.; five grandchildren, Emily Eldridge, Sarah Eldridge, Jackson Eldridge, Corie Beth Coplen and Laney Coplen. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday July 12, 2016, at South Fork Church of Christ with Charley Belch officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2016, at Hayworth-Miller's Silas Creek Chapel.
