Carolyn Robinson Della Mea of Galax, Va., formerly of Winston-Salem, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, of pancreatic cancer at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was 65.She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Joseph Michael Della Mea, and extended family, many friends and her German short-haired pointer, Tucker. She was the daughter of the late Ruby Franklin Robinson Calton and the late Paul Robinson and sister of the late Perry Samuel Robinson. She was a native of Spindale, N.C., and a graduate of R-S Central High School and Isothermal Community College. She held a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Gardner-Webb University, a Master of Arts degree in rehabilitation psychology from Appalachian State University, a Master of Science degree in recreation administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a doctorate in educational research and evaluation from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va. She retired in 2006 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she was director of data management. During her time at the university she had also served as a planning and institutional research analyst and as assistant director of planning and institutional research. Before coming to UNC-G, she was senior research analyst for the Office of Institutional research at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan., a consultant and graduate research assistant at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., and a rehabilitation counselor with the North Carolina Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in Forest City. She loved outdoor sports, including bicycling, kayaking and hiking. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel,3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, N.C. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. A second memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at First Presbyterian Church, 438 W. Main St., Forest City, N.C. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. in the church's Family Life Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.
