Mrs. Carolyn Voss Styers, 81, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014. Mrs. Styers was a loving and devoted wife and mother, and she is survived by her husband of 57 years, Donald Gray Styers, and her son, Dr. Randall Gray Styers of Carrboro. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Voss Pratt of Pinnacle, and her brothers, Harold Reid Voss of King, Ralph Wayne Voss of Lexington, Joseph Clinton Voss of Dobson, and Calvin Franklin Voss of King. In addition she is survived by dear nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and innumerable devoted friends and co-workers. She was also blessed with a host of very special in-laws who added great joy to her life. Mrs. Styers was born in King on November 23, 1932, to Hobart Reid Voss and Deamie Garners Voss. She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Ronald Lewis Voss. She was raised by her parents to be generous, and she knew how fortunate she was, so throughout her life she shared what she had with those around her in countless act of kindness. Mrs. Styers worked for 43 years for Western Electric Company and AT&T, where she was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. For more than 50 years Mrs. Styers was a member of Becks Baptist Church, and for 20 years she served as chair of the church's Senior Adult Committee. The seniors of Becks valued her commitment and planning, and they showed loving appreciation for her energy and enthusiasm. Over recent decades Mrs. Styers and her husband traveled to over 60 foreign countries and all 50 states. She loved adventure, and she shared her passion for travel with the seniors of Becks and other dear friends. A funeral service will be held at Becks Baptist Church at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, with Dr. Karl Minor officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1300 Baxter Street, Suite 150, Charlotte, NC 28204, or to Becks Baptist Church, 5505 Becks Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
