It is with great sadness that the family of Carolyn Wandscher announces her passing after a three-year battle with cancer on March 25, 2019 at the age of 71 years. Carolyn was born to the late Michael Vasilenko, Sr and the late Florence (Tuma) Vasilenko on July 22, 1947 in Passaic, NJ. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1965 and received a BS in Education from William Paterson University in 1969. Carolyn went on to enjoy a 30+ year career in teaching. She was a teacher for 6 years at Walter T. Bergen School in Bloomingdale, NJ and 24 years at Lacy Elementary School in Raleigh, NC. Upon her retirement in 2010, Carolyn moved to Winston-Salem, NC. Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Lauren Tolley, son-in-law Derek Tolley, two grandchildren, Wyatt and Reagan Tolley, brother Michael Vasilenko, sister Jo-Ann Vasilenko. Carolyn was predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald Wandscher in 2010. She will also be lovingly remembered by cousins Diana Brotschul, George Beregi and Ronald Tuma. Carolyn will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. She had an amazing way with children. She touched the lives of so many children and had such a positive and lasting impact on so many of the children she taught. Carolyn was a loving mother, sister, friend, teacher, wife and most of all doting grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. She was beloved “Ho-Ho” to her two grandchildren, Wyatt and Reagan, who lovingly gave her that nickname by which she was affectionately known. Her favorite place on Earth was the Biltmore Estate in Ashville, NC where she often went with her daughter Lauren and where her family all gathered to celebrate her 70th birthday. Carolyn will be remembered by all for her loving soul, kind heart, generosity, selflessness and sincere goodness. She will remain forever in our hearts. The family would like to thank everyone for their support, kindness and prayers during this difficult time. Carolyn’s wish was to be cremated. The family will hold a memorial service on March 28, 2019 at 11:00 am at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home located at 108 East Kinderton Way in Advance, NC.
