Catherine J. McArthur Gilbert

Mrs. Catherine Jessie McArthur Gilbert, 91, died on October 13, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center. Jessie was born in Norfolk, Virginia, to James Colie and Katherine O'Neill McArthur on November 28, 1924. She grew up in Carthage, North Carolina and graduated Valedictorian from Carthage High School. She worked for the Veterans Administration in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and moved to Winston-Salem with the VA in 1946. She retired from Forsyth Technical Community College in 1990. She was a faithful member of Fairview Moravian Church. She really enjoyed card games, especially Bridge with her friends. She delighted in spending her time with family and friends. She and her husband of 66 years travelled the world and had many fond memories of the places they visited. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her younger sister, Shirley McArthur Bozich of Pinehurst, North Carolina. Surviving are her loving husband, Hewitt Gilbert; two sons, Gary Gilbert (wife Alyce) of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Dr. Gregg Gilbert (wife Michele) of Birmingham, Alabama; three grandchildren, Maryclaire Gilbert, Brandon Gilbert, and Caitilin Gilbert; and two nieces, Leigh Bozich and Kay Bozich-Owens. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Fairview Moravian Church. Interment will follow in Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Choir Fund, Fairview Moravian Church, 6550 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
