Cecil William Gilbert

Mr. Cecil William Gilbert, 85, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born September 17, 1929 in Cooley Springs, SC to Zula Kimbrell Gilbert and Carl Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict and was an active member of Oak Forest United Methodist Church. He retired from AT & T after 30 years of service and delivered Meals on Wheels for 25 years. Mr. Gilbert enjoyed playing golf and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Mahaffey and Gladys Clayton. Surviving are his loving wife of 59 years, Barbara Parks Gilbert; a daughter, Julie Ney and husband Richard of Winston-Salem; two sons, Steve Gilbert and wife Donna of Winston-Salem and Barry Gilbert and wife Ginger Gallagher of Lewisville and five grandchildren, Olivia, Reese and Cooper Ney and Seth and Sarah Gilbert. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Oak Forest United Methodist Church with Rev. Darren Alexander officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W. Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Oak Forest United Methodist Church building fund 11461 Old Highway 52 Winston Salem, N.C. 27107.
