Cecil Warren Shelton

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our father, Cecil Shelton age 97 on August 5th, 2026. Cecil grew up in Stokes County in the small town of Francisco to the late Jesse Reid Shelton and Alma Marie Collins Shelton.

Cecil worked at Western Electric for 36 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America before retiring. He was a loving father who took the time to teach his children to love the Lord and he instilled hard work values. Cecil enjoyed playing golf, restoring antiques, woodworking projects, gardening, and camping.

He was preceded in death by his five siblings; his wife, Gaynelle George Shelton; his son, Michael Shelton; and grandson, Kris Atkins.

Cecil leaves behind a loving family including his sons, Steve Shelton (Sharon), and David Shelton (Denise); his daughter, Lisa Atkins (Kevin); grandchildren, Aleta Shelton, Stephanie Beerbhajan (Lenny), Travis Shelton (Lindsay), Taylor Shelton, Aleisha Noah (Wes), Brad Shelton (Kimberly), and Shane Atkins (Kayla); granddaughter-in-law, Kayla Atkins; daughter-in-law, Cathy Shelton; great-grandchildren, Camden, Taryn, Ledger, Banks, Cheyenne, Hayden, Cali, Kynsley, Kash, Abel, Everleigh, and Ezra. Cecil leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church. Entombment will follow the service at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem.
