Charles Lester Bridges, 88, died on March 13, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Charles was born on August 6, 1925 to George Lester Bridges and Jennie Champion Bridges in Shelby, NC. He served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II and again in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Baptist Church for 60 years. Charles was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. He loved golf, people and traveling. And he will be warmly remembered for his great sense of humor. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn Clayton Bridges; son, Charles Richard Bridges (Sally); daughter, Gaye Bridges Price; 4 grandsons, Michael Bridges (Sara), John Bridges, Zachary Bridges, and Chase Price; as well as a great grandson, Benjamin Bridges.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Dr. David Hughes presiding. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 501 W. 5th St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
