Charles Darrell Cain, known to most as Darrell, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully at his home on April 20, 2026, at the age of 61.
Darrell was born on February 22, 1965, in Forsyth County, North Carolina. He was raised in Kernersville and later spent his years in Walnut Cove, where he built a life centered around family, hard work, and the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his father, Don Cain; his mother, Gypsy Lewis; his grandfather, Richard Cain; his grandmother, Ollie Cain; and his aunt, Dot Clark.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Cain; his son, Isaac Cain (Lexi); and his stepchildren, Riley Bucklin (Brett), Ben Robertson (Scout), and Cambell Robertson (Caleb). He is also survived by his sisters, Donna Cavanaugh and Jennifer Lowe (Jeff); his nephews, Jordan Brooks and Braylon Lowe; his niece, Brynley Lowe; his aunts, Sandy Cain and Anne Nelms (Ed); along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Darrell dedicated many years of his life to his work, beginning at Varco Pruden and Roadway Trucking before going on to start his own landscaping and mowing business. He took pride in working with his hands and creating something of his own.
Darrell had a deep love for the outdoors and a natural connection to animals. Whether he was spending time with his dog, Thor, tending to his cows and donkey, or working on the farm, he found peace in country living. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, camping, and putting in long days baling hay or working on tractors. Darrell was someone who preferred to stay busy, always building, fixing, or improving something, and he truly felt at home outside.
Above all, Darrell’s greatest pride and most important role was being a father. He was especially proud of his son Isaac and his service in the United States Air Force, a source of deep honor for Darrell and his love for his country.
Darrell will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of family, and his appreciation for the outdoors and simple life. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral service will be held at 2 PM Monday, May 4, 2026 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Rev. Rick Carter officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory, Kernersville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home
