Charles Edward Childers, beloved husband, brother, father and grandfather, age 82, passed away May 7, 2026, at his home in Kernersville, NC with his family by his side. Charles was born November 27, 1943, in Rockingham County to the late parents Ralph and Dorothy Childers.

Mr. Childers retired from RJ Reynolds after 33 years as a mechanical engineer. He was well-loved by his colleagues and friends. He lived a full life of adventure and had an incredible spirit and kindness that he brought to all he encountered, and to all the people he loved. His spirit will live on in the hearts and minds of those who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Ervin ‘Buddy’ Mumford on 3/18/1992, and his granddaughter Rachel D Irby on 3/23/2026.

Surviving are his wife Jean Childers, his brother Dwight Childers and wife Sandy, his daughters Debbie Lancaster, Robin Tester and husband Joe, Tammy Logan and husband Mark, Cheryl Childers, Patricia Irby and husband Pat, and Candace Childers. Grandchildren Casey Kirkman, Corey Jones, David Tester, Jennifer Jones-Hart, Justin Jarrell, Chad Ray, Drew Jones, Chris Irby, Brandon Daniels, Brody Minkler, Jack Childers, and Noah Minkler. Mr. Childers had 35 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. He was adored by all.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on May 11, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Services- Kernersville Chapel, with Pastor Pete Kunkle officiating. Family will receive friends and family between 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the Kernersville Chapel.

Family and friends are cordially invited to bring a dish for a potluck gathering at the home of Jean Childers following the service.
