Charles (Charley) Reid Edwards, 84, passed away on March 13, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Charles was born on December 2, 1929 to Lewis T. Edwards and Martha B. Edwards in Charlotte, NC. He attended N.C. State University in Raleigh, NC and always backed the Pack. He served his country in the U. S. Air force during the Korean War. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. He retired from the Marketing Division of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 30 years. He was an avid golfer, belonging to the Carolina Golf Association and spent his retirement as a golf ranger, as well as playing golf at Tanglewood Golf Course. He loved watching sports, traveling and spending time with his five grandchildren. A great lover of music and movies, he had an extensive collection of both. He will be warmly remembered for his sense of humor and a knack for telling stories. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Marlene Fulton Edwards; son, Randall Lee Edwards and wife Joan of Winston-Salem; daughter, Cynthia (Cindi) Ann Edwards Hodges of Charlotte; five grandchildren, John Edwards; Sarah Wright (Nick), Ben Edwards, Angela Edwards, and Lauren Hodges. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America 801 Eighteenth St. NW Washington, DC, 2006 or the Arthritis Foundation, 1330 West Peachtree St Suite 100, Atlanta, GA 30309.
