Mr. Charles Darwin (C.D.) Essex, Jr., 87, of Winston-Salem passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Essex was born in Yadkin County on December 16, 1926 to Charles Darwin and Epsie Essex. He was retired from Western Electric (Alcatel-Lucent). C.D. was a proud member of First United Church of Christ. He was an avid animal lover and loved his little dog, Little Mac. C.D. was also a longtime member and treasurer of the Forsyth Fowl Fanciers. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Pacific campaign. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Edna McMahan Essex and brothers, Eran Essic and Donald Essex. Having no children he is survived by a nephew Aaron (Bud) Essic and wife Patty of Winston-Salem, a niece Carolyn Butner and husband, Steve of Hamptonville, NC and a special great niece Mary Ann Butner Pfaff and husband Jake of Hamptonville, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at First United Church of Christ, 1912 Waughtown St., Winston-Salem, with the Rev. David L. Crook and Rev. Wayne Linville officiating. The family would like to send a special thanks to all of C.D.'s nurses and caregivers at Forsyth Medical Center.
