His last assignment was in Munich, Germany, serving as Command Sergeant Major (E9) for the 66th Military Intelligence Group. Upon returning to the United States, he had a second career with the NC Department of Agriculture, retiring in 1976. For the next nearly 40 years, he traveled with his beloved wife Betty, who predeceased him in December of 2016, and both he and Betty played their favorite game of golf on many courses in the US, Mexico, Canada, and realized one of their longtime goals by playing St. Andrews in Scotland. He is also survived by a large extended golfing family at Wilshire Golf Club, having played the course since 1967. One of his most cherished friendships was with owners, George and Lou Veech, and enjoyed their company for many years.
