Charles Thomas Long, Sr.

Mr. Charles Thomas Long, Sr., 83. passed away Wednesday. February 7, 2024, at his residence. He was born October 15, 1940, in Colfax, the son of Clarence and Lela Doss Long. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served two tours in Thailand in 1965 and 1967 and a tour in Turkey in 1964 during the Cold War. He retired from AMP, Inc. in 1998 after 25 years of service and had previously worked at Gilbarco for 6 years. He continued to work at AMP, Inc after his retirement. Charles enjoyed doing research on history and genealogy. He tracked his family back to the 1740’s and earlier. Charles was also a member of the 27^th Guilford Greys, Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his two sons, Charles Thomas Long, Jr. of Liberty and Brian Long (Dana) of Reidsville; three sisters, Lucille Cox of Summerfield, Phyllis Sutton (Donald) of Belmont and Mary Mobley (Byron) of Richmond, VA.; four brothers, Clarence Long, Jr. of Colfax, James Long (Linda) of Summerfield, Robert Long (Cathy) of Greensboro and Larry Long (June) of Burlington; a granddaughter, Riley of Reidsville; a grandson, Dylan Long of Reidsville; a longtime companion, Brenda Anderson and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Smith Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Sandy Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church. The family wishes to thank the staff of both AuthoraCare Hospice and the Veterans Administration Medical staff in Salisbury for their loving care.
