KERNERSVILLE – Mr. Charles M. “Marty” Simmons, 70, passed away peacefully at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home on August 26, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 7, 1954, to Charles Clemmons Simmons and Martha Weavil Simmons in Forsyth County. Marty was employed with the Winston-Salem Journal, where he was a graphic artist for 38 years. He also worked for Loomis as an Armed Vault Custodian; and for Wake Forest Baptist Hospital as a security guard for several years. Marty had a volunteer’s heart, working and giving his time to Triangle Fire Department for 20 plus years. He also volunteered at Old Salem as a blacksmith. In his spare time, Marty enjoyed photography and camping with his family. He loved his family dogs, Mollie, Hanna, Shadow, Eva, and Nike. Marty will be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Simmons is preceded in death by his parents; and his nephew, Chris Simmons.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patty, of 42 years; a godson, Greg Miller; three brothers, Mike Simmons (Nancy), Brian Simmons (Tammy), and Barry Simmons (Cindy); a brother-in-law, John Brooks (Gail); and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at 2:00 PM, September 7, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, PO Box 98011, Washington DC, 20090-8011.
