Mr. Charles “Buford” McCann, 92, of Clemmons, NC, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Wilkes County on January 8,1934, to the late Mr. William Levi McCann and Mrs. Nellie Burchette McCann.
He was a 1952 graduate of Roaring River High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served for two years in Germany.
Buford worked for Duke Power, now Duke Energy, and retired after 30 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement, he enjoyed riding BMW motorcycles. He traveled over 600,000 miles on his motorcycle. He also found joy in gardening.
Faith was a central point in his life. He was a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1978. Buford was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew and loved him. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his two brothers, Kenneth and JB McCann.
Left to cherish his loving memory are his wife of 70 years, Betty McCann; two daughters, Sherri Whitt (Marty) and Paige Lewis (John); four grandsons, Dr. Zachary Whitt, Tyler Whitt (Katherine), Preston Lewis (Allie) and Parks Lewis; one great granddaughter, Anderson Grace Whitt; two sisters, Joyce Ross (Alton) and Mary Bryant (Knox); and a host of extended relatives.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Pastor Truett Williams Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607; Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; or to Calvary Baptist Church, www.calvarynow.com/give/.
