Mr. Charles Edward Miller, 95, of Winston-Salem, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born in Forsyth County on August 9, 1921, to the late Lindsay Franklin Miller and Tishia Calicutt Miller. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. Charles retired from both Hanes Knitwear and United Automotive. He was a lifelong devoted member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie Leona Gibbons Miller, one brother and two sisters. Charles is survived by his wife, Nannie Mae Hester Miller of the home; daughters, Pat Smith (Steve) of White Oak, NC, Pam Wolf (Larry) of Westfield, NC, Paula Purvis of Winston-Salem, and Jo Ella Sealey (Ira) of Winston-Salem; a son-in-law, Ervin Purvis of Winston-Salem; 9 grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 17, 2017, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Pastor David Peeler officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice and Palliative Care of Forsyth County for the compassionate care they provided to Charles and the entire family.
