Charles Vernon Smitherman

Mr. Charles Vernon Smitherman, 79, of King, surrounded by his family, passed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior unexpectedly on September 2, 2025. He was born on December 2, 1945, in Forsyth County to the late Guy Vernon Smitherman and the late Annie Butner Hiatt. Mr. Smitherman had a long career in the telecommunications industry. He was a member in good standing at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church in Tobaccoville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Garry, and a brother, Kimber Grant Smitherman. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sabrina Smitherman; a son, Rod Smitherman; a daughter, Karen Drane (Andy); a son, Kevin Barker; his brother, Michael Smitherman (Happy); three grandchildren, Emily Cole (Logan), Derrick Drane (Danielle) and Nathan Barker, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall with a celebration of life following at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow the service in Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church Cemetery. Per family request, please refrain from visiting the home during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mt.
