Charles Eugene Vance, 95, went home to his heavenly Father at his residence on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. He was born in Glady, WV, on June 29, 1930, to the late Isaac Judson Vance and Ida Mae Hodge Vance. Charles was a proud United States Army Veteran. Charles served bravely to protect this country, and after his service in the Korean war as a Korea Ranger, he was awarded a silver star medal for his gallantry. He then went on and served two tours in the 82nd Airborne during the Vietnam war and returned home with two bronze stars for valor. Over the course of his life, Charles accumulated over 5,000 skydives, his final jump at age 76. Charles will be remembered for his courage. He will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda J. Vance; a son, Ernie “Butch” Vance; three grandchildren Eddie Vance, Rene Cook, and Chad Vance; as well as five brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his daughters, Genia Cook and Vickie Nettle (Mark); two grandchildren, Luke Nettle and Levi Nettle; two great-grandchildren, Emily and Molly; six siblings, Velma Taylor, Pete Vance, Wilma Vance, Marion Vance, Junior Vance, and Ruth Williams; as well as other extended family members.
Services are to be held at a later date.
