Clara Mae Bennett Barr, 92, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
Clara was born on May 21, 1933, to the late Robert Bennett and Verda Adams Bennett in Pilot Mountain. She was one of eight siblings in a large, close-knit family.
In her early years, she worked at Hanes Knitting Company. Later, she went on to enjoy a successful career as a hairdresser, retiring after 25 years.
Clara married the love of her life, Bill Barr, in 1960. The two spent 62 wonderful years together. They were inseparable. Wherever you saw one, you’d see the other. For years, Saturdays were spent at yard sales and flea markets. They enjoyed many trips, cruises, and of course, countless visits to Cherokee Casino.
Clara was involved in many church activities at Grace Baptist Church with her close friends, Gary and Ruth Morelock. She took pride in working with her flowers and tomato plants. Clara enjoyed cooking dinners for the family on special occasions, and we would often ask her, “was she cooking for the whole neighborhood?” Clara’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with family, especially her two great grandchildren. She was affectionately known as “Maw-Maw” by many.
In addition to her parents, Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Garland “Bill” Barr; and siblings, Ella Butt, J.D. Bennett, James Bennett, Alfred Bennett, Eldon Bennett, and Ronald Bennett. Surviving are her daughter, Karen Davis (Jeep); grandson, Sammy Ball (Courtney); two great grandsons, Samuel and Carson; brother, Claiborn Bennett (Mattie); sister-in-law, Peggy Floyd; brother-in-law, Butch Butt; and many special nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to her devoted caregivers, Tonya Edney and Bonita Napper who made this difficult time so much easier.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel with Pastor Zachary King officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:30 AM -12:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in the Grace Baptist Church cemetery.
Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel is assisting the Barr family.
