Mr. Clarence Lanier Gobble, 96, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born November 10, 1922 in Davie County to Willis Vestal and Flossie Lanier Gobble. Mr. Gobble was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He participated in the European Theater serving on the beaches of Normandy tending to the wounded soldiers. He received three battle stars including the Battle of the Bulge while fighting through France, Belgium and Germany and following the war Mr. Gobble was a barber for 60 years and owned and operated Gobble’s Barber Shop. He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Irvin, Ottis, Felix, J.B., Howard, Willis, Jeraldine, and Virgle and three sisters, Mavis Peoples, Zula Vae Meadows and Betty Rice. Surviving is his wife of 72 years, Floy Louise Tutterow Gobble; two children, Rebecca Floy Gobble Dunn and husband Robert and Clarence Lanier Gobble II and wife Kathy; a grandson, Clarence “Tripp” Lanier Gobble III and many nieces and nephews. Clarence loved his family and was most proud of his grandson Tripp. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and was very proud of Floy and her musical talent and loved to listen to her play the piano. He never met a stranger and was a very giving person. In retirement he enjoyed vacationing with Becky and Bob Dunn around the country and one of his favorite trips was to the World War II memorial in Washington D.C. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel in Advance, NC. Entombment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. Following the graveside service the family will receive friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to his caregiver, Sonya Sharp.
