Cleata Plowman White, 99, departed this earth on December 16, 2014. Gifted with intelligence, beauty and love for others, Cleata lived a life of achievements and adventures. Born in Yadkinville, NC on May 9, 1915, she grew up during the depression. Her father, Robert H. Plowman and her mother, Eliza Jane Shore Plowman, wanting to reach for higher standards, traveled with Cleata and her brothers, Bill, Robert, and Marvin and her sisters, Ethel, Nita, Gert, Ila, and Addie by wagon crossing the Yadkin River taking seven days to arrive in Winston-Salem. They began living in the southwest side of Winston-Salem. The children attended the little red school house on Main Street. When South Park School was built, her principal, Mr. MacDaniels chose her to do a mosaic on the floor of the new school thus beginning her love for the arts. Cleata obtained a degree from the National Arts Institute. Soon thereafter she met her husband, Luther Coe and they had three children. While living in California she painted murals, set designs, and performed in the Little Theatre. After extensive traveling she retired to Myrtle Beach, SC and subsequently moved to Florida with her husband William White and her sister Addie where they lived for 30 years before returning to Winston-Salem. Her personality reflected a deep love of truth and beauty. She enjoyed television until her eyesight failed. Until her death if you asked how she was doing, she would say ""I am celebrating life"". Cleata is survived by her children, Gary V. Coe and wife Ann of Florence, SC, Robert L. Coe and wife Vernetta of Erie, PA, and Janice C. Sprinkle and husband Talmadge of Winston-Salem; her grandchildren, Brian, Alan, Keith, Terry, Bobby, Tammy, and Sandy, 22 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 12:30pm, Friday, December 19, 2014 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Rick Swaim officiating. Burial will follow at Turners Creek Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
