Mrs. Cleo Balding Lane of Winston-Salem, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 98 years of age. She was born in Hot Springs, Madison County, NC to the late Chauncy William and Evelyn Rainey Balding on February 6, 1928.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Lane; sisters, Hazel Suttles, Gladys Wilson, Mabel Wilson, and Nina Ledford; and brothers, Clayton Balding and Dale Balding. Surviving is her son, David J. Lane and wife, Susan; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Lane graduated from Clyde High School in Haywood County and Mars Hill Junior College. She worked for the U.S. Government (VA Hospital, U.S. Air Force, Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Forest Service) changing jobs when her husband’s work transferred him with the VA Hospital. She retired in 1985 with 33 years of service.
Mrs. Lane was an active member of College Park Baptist Church for many years and volunteered at Baptist Hospital and Crisis Control Ministry for several years.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at College Park Baptist Church with Rev. Ramon Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
The family asks for no flowers; donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, Attn: Donor Services, 5757 Waterford District Drive, Suite 310, Miami, FL 33126.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family of Mrs. Lane.
