Consuelo Jimenez Bluhm

Consuelo Jimenez Bluhm died on February 4th, 2024, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem at the age of 87. Consuelo was born on December 22, 1936, in Madrid, Spain, and grew up in Badajoz, Spain, a few miles from the Portuguese border. She called Winston-Salem home for almost sixty years, most of those with her late husband George Richie Bluhm. 

She is survived by her son John Henry Bluhm of Atlanta, and his husband John Gibson; her son Robert Charles Bluhm of Winston-Salem and his wife Debby Demby; and her grandchildren Evan McNeill Bluhm of Seattle WA, and his partner Alexandra French; John Duncan Bluhm of Charlotte and his fiancee Haley Sink; and Caroline Elizabeth Bluhm of Chicago and her partner Dan Apodaca-Kotick. 

Consuelo regarded many dear friends as family, including especially Maria Elena Garcia and Alejandrina (Alexa) Iruela, who were beside her on her last day. She thought of Carlos César Rodriguez of Washington DC and his brother Carlos Cecilio Rodriguez of Bogota, Columbia as her honorary sons. Consuelo spent many happy Thanksgivings and Christmases with her in-laws Jim and Joyce Gibson, alongside her dear Gibson family. She was deeply gratified by her many return trips to Spain, hosted by her large family there, and their matriarchs, her beloved cousins Nina Conejo, Concha López, and Terésa López. 

Consuelo's life was marked by faith, service, and handcraft. She was especially proud of her three decades as a skilled and oft-awarded volunteer medical translator for the Community Care Center of Forsyth County, where her countless hours touched thousands of lives. Consuelo was a sought-after, couture-quality seamstress, creating hundreds of impeccably finished garments. 

She was a long-time member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, where a service in her memory will be held on Friday, February 16, at 3 pm. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in her memory be made to the Community Care Center, 2135 New Walkertown Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
