Cora Ann Tuttle Ashburn

KING - Mrs. Cora Ann Ashburn, 81, passed away peacefully at home Friday, October 1, 2010 after a lengthy illness with lung cancer. She was born in Stokes County to the late William and Luella Moser Tuttle. Mrs. Ashburn was a life-long resident of King and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Upon her high school graduation at the age of 16, she worked during World War II for the FBI in Washington, returned to this area and worked in the business departments of the Ideal Department Store and Western Electric. After having children, she became a homemaker and worked with her husband Glenn in Ashburn Accounting for 40 years. Ann had many interests that dealt with her children and community. She was a member and former president of the King Ladies Auxiliary. Her love for flowers led her to be chairman of the flower department for the Stokes County Fair for nearly 40 years. Her fondest memories were with the King of Spades Garden Club in which she was a charter member of since 1962; serving as its former president along with other offices. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ashburn was preceded in death by her sister, Nina Lawson; sister-in-law, Dorothy Tuttle; brothers, Leslie, William and Richard Tuttle; brother-in-laws, Arvol Hepler, CR Moser, Carl Lawson and Rex Ashburn. Mrs. Ashburn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Glenn Ashburn; two daughters, Cindy Schneider and husband Joel of Raleigh, and Suzanne Demming and husband Jim of Kingsport, TN; four grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Schneider, and James and Ashley Demming; two sisters, Louise Hepler and Mary Moser; sister-in-laws, Viola Tuttle and Hazel Ashburn; also several nieces, nephews, extended family members and special friends. A Funeral Service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 4 at Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Baird and Ralph Sproles, Minister officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, October 3 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to King of Spades Garden Club, 120 Queens Drive, King, NC 27021. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Ann's special caregiver, Heather Axtell and to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Stokes County.
