Cora Marie Tilley

Cora Marie Cleary Tilley, lovingly known as Marie, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and devotion to family.

Marie was born on July 6, 1927, to Guy and Pearl Cleary in Wilkes County at Gamble Creek. As a senior in high school, she moved with her family to Belews Creek, where she continued to build the life that would become so meaningful to those around her. Marie worked for many years at Hanes Hosiery, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dependability.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward L. Tilley; her three brothers, Claude Cleary, Wiley Cleary, and Edward Cleary; and her sister, Sadie Blevins. She is survived by her sister, Mabel Johnson.

Marie was a devoted mother to her daughters Pat Hambright, and son-in-law, Ken Hambright and Ana Leftwich. She was a proud and loving grandmother to her beautiful granddaughters, Christy Hambright-Carter (Tim), Cathy-Lee Ward (Brandon), Regia Carani (Chris) and Stephanie Fisher (Justin and son Ethan). She was also blessed with two cherished great-granddaughters, Madison and Kylee, who brought her immense joy.

Marie was a faithful member of Marshall Baptist Church for many, many years. She was known as a devoted Christian whose kindness, sweetness, and gentle spirit touched everyone she met. Marie was truly a beautiful person inside and out, and her warmth and love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Her life was one of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and deep love for and from her family—a legacy that will live on for generations to come.

A graveside service will be held at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 1:00pm.
