Cory Everette Hawks born on October 1, 1989, was a beloved son, friend, and faithful servant of God, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
He was a man of great passion, joy, and unwavering faith, whose presence lit up every room and whose love touched countless lives. Born with a free spirit and a fierce heart, Cory found his greatest joys in the roar of a dragster, the calm of the ocean, the quiet moments holding a fishing rod in hand, flinging the bowling ball down the lane, and being on the back of the bike. Importantly drag racing and bowling wasn’t just a hobby for Cory—it was a part of his soul. He lived for the thrill, the speed, the sound of the pins clashing with a strike, and the community it brought him. His weekends were often spent at the track or the bowling alley, building memories with friends and family under the hum of engines, the smell of burning rubber and the sound of the cheers when hitting a 300. Above all, Cory was a man of deep faith. His love for God was the compass that guided his life. He lived with kindness, generosity, and purpose, always quick with a helping hand or a word of encouragement. His faith was evident in the way he loved others—with a big heart, a big laugh, and an even bigger spirit. Cory's legacy is one of passion, peace, and purpose. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but the memories of his laughter, strength, and devotion will live on forever.
He was preceded in death by Suzanne Ratliff Thomas; and his grandparents.
Cory is survived by his parents, Tony and Kimberly Hawks; his son, Luke Everette Hawks; his brother and best friend, Tyler Butner; grandfather, Thomas E. Hawks; two aunts, Patricia Lawson (Billy) and Janie Hargett (Tony Tyndall); three uncles, Jack Wells, Jeffrey Ratliff (Sherry), Keith Ratliff; and many cousins and countless friends and loved ones whose lives he enriched.
A celebration of Cory’s life will be held at 6pm on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Poplar Springs Christian Church in King, NC. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will take place at 2pm on Monday July 21, 2025, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, NC. The family invites guests to bring stories to share, photos and laughs—just the way he would have wanted.
